There is actually no strategy to keep this relationship a “calm pacific sea”. The only things we can do is to maintain, as mothers, our daughters to be independent, wise and happy but with roots strong enough to make them feel proud of this bond built with their mothers.  

Anyway, I wrote here some tips to strengthen this bond that can be good to keep in mind. Who knows it isn’t exactly what you need to read right now to improve even more this mother and daughter relationship?

• A girl is not obliged to be her mother's daily accomplice or to be always willing to share her typical adult problems, fears or anxieties early on.  
• A daughter needs a mother who will play that role, someone who will show her safe strength as well as closeness.
• A daughter is not a copy of a mother. She has her own tastes, her own needs that in some cases will have nothing to do with what the mother had at her age, times are different. 
• Successful motherhood is one in which daughters are given the opportunity to form themselves by feeling capable and secure.  
• The mother who shares her experience with her daughter, offers her advice, support and affection, also gives confidence that her daughter is someone in her own right, paving the way in life for her to become the woman she wants to be.

Despite some difficulties we can find on the way, like situations of conflict and differences that every young woman ends up experiencing at some point with her mother, there will always be our lap to cuddle, our words to soothe her, and a relationship built on what really matters: the love between mother and daughter..
